Neighbourhood Watch [Stained Glass Preparatory Piece]

Design based on the old stickers and signposts you'd find around Ireland in the early 90s, particularly in the frosted glass porch windows of every second house in Dublin. I think the same campaign's still going on to this day in parts? I see a few of these symbols still fixed up on posts in more out-of-the-way places. While I know the idea's universal, I've no idea about the origins of the campaign's symbol, that I've placed as a centrepiece at the top. As 'Neighbourhood Watch' was about protection and community, I incorporated the symbol of the Irish police force, an Garda Síochána (in English: Guardians of the Peace).

There's something appealing about the juxtaposition of how hilarious old-time fisticuffs look alongside the grace of animal posture. I'm also quite taken with depicting scenes in profile, which tends to over exalt or revere moments when used with something a bit silly, almost like an icon.

BP Fallon & The Bandits - Still Legal

Illustration of paint splash for BP Fallon and The Bandits Album "Still Legal". Used on the front sleeve and on the centre disc of the vinyl edition. Featuring BP, Nigel Harrison and Clem Burke of Blondie, and Aaron Lee Tasjan of the New York Dolls. BP himself is famous for his 'admin' work with The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, including performing with John Lennon on Top of the Pops.
